The Boston Lyric Opera (BLO), founded in 1976, has been bringing both classic and cutting-edge opera to life right here in Boston. BLO mixes the traditional with the unexpected, often performing in unique venues around the city to make opera more exciting and accessible to everyone.
The Rebrand
BLO’s brand refresh was a subtle yet impactful rebrand, modernizing its visual identity while preserving its core elements. Their updated logo and typeface keep the essence of the company while reflecting BLO’s vibrant energy and their mission to connect with wider, more diverse audiences.
The Butterfly Process
BLO's Butterfly Process was an exciting, multi-year adventure, rethinking Madama Butterfly by tackling its cultural complexities and how it portrays Asian characters. With new perspectives, creative reimaginings, and open conversations, the project is all about making this iconic opera resonate in today’s world.
2022–23 Season Artwork
Following a fresh visual identity, KUDOS pushed the season artwork to become bolder in color, fresher in typography, and vibrant in illustrative language. The refresh as a whole charged BLO into the next era of Opera, one that’s accessible and exciting to the community at large.
