WAYFINDING
CLIENT — THE WALTERS ART MUSEUM
COURSE — SIGNS, EXHIBITS, SPACES AT THE MARYLAND INSTITUTE COLLEGE OF ART
The Walters Art Museum is in search of a revitalized wayfinding system to help visitors navigate and find their way to exhibitions in the Museum. It has a complicated architectural structure making it an unnatural path from its entrance to end. It is a designer’s responsibility to disseminate crucial points of information to places where it is most needed.
The Walters Art Museum is a public art museum founded in 1934 in Mount Vernon, Baltimore with collections created during the mid-19th Century. The Walters is one of only a few museums in the world to present such a panorama of art; the thousands of treasures range from mummies to arms and armor, from old master paintings to Art Nouveau jewelry.
