The Center for Active Design is the leading non-profit organization committed to transforming the built environment to foster healthy and engaged communities. Produced in collaboration with the Center for Active Design, the Assembly: Civic Design Guidelines is a groundbreaking playbook for creating well-designed and well-maintained public spaces. With a mission to create a healthier built environment by translating research into action, the guidelines encapsulate four years of research, with input from 200+ studies, 50+ cities, and 70+ expert advisors, to provide evidence-based design and maintenance strategies for shaping places where people trust each other, have confidence in local institutions, and actively work together to address local priorities.
KUDOS designed the guidelines to be accessible from the civic-minded community member to the matured and established policymaker, functioning as a playbook to guide actionable strategies across community organizing, transportation, event programming, infrastructure, and more. Vibrant colors and simple hand-drawn illustrations are paired with research findings to keep readers engaged from start to finish.
